I. List of Web translator duties:

  1. The accurate and complete production of translations of documents primarily patents and other related linguistic tasks (including ad hoc proofreading and approval as required).​
  2. Daily checking of forthcoming work schedules and liaison with Translation Coordinator
  3. Liaison with the allocation team and production team as required
  4. Review of each job ticket for specific translation order requirements
  5. Clear dictation of translations
  6. Drawing customer’s attention to flaws in source text
  7. Resolution of individual text queries
  8. Use of research methods to resolve queries
  9. Assistance to production staff as required
  10. Signing of certificates
  11. Attendance at notary as necessary
  12. Input to Sales team as necessary
  13. Approval of own work after proofreading
  14. Checking other translators’ work when resource planning demands
  15. Cover for colleagues’ approvals as required

II. List of Web translator qualifications

  1. A PhD and additional language qualifications are also desirable 
  2. Previous translation/​proofreading experience /​ Specific industry or research sector knowledge & experience /​ Knowledge of other languages /​ Experience in intellectual property is desirable
  3. Keen eye for detail
  4. Accurate language/​grammar abilities
  5. Research ability
  6. Problem solving ability
  7. Ability/​desire to work as an individual, but as part of the wider translation team
  8. Proven translation ability /​ Ability to prioritise work /​ Communication skills (liaison with other departments) /​ IT skills – use of email, internet, archive, database, translation software e.​g.​ Trados desirable
  9. Sound judgement
  10. Willingness to take responsibility for allocated workload
  11. Willingness to assist colleagues – by covering their tasks occasionally or by helping to assist with queries
  12. Ability to plan and prioritise continually changing schedule
