Hospital translator activities

I. List of Hospital translator duties:

  1. Handles incoming phone calls; answers questions for callers or visitors directly or as a staff translator.
  2. Attends member/family meetings to provide translation services.
  3. Accompanies staff to the member’s home, hospital, or nursing home to provide translation services.
  4. Translates written correspondence to/from members or their families.
  5. Assesses the patient's interpretation needs and maintains patient confidentiality.
  6. Translates written materials
  7. Assists patients in completing medical or financial forms.
  8. Maintains accurate daily records on all requests for service in a timely manner.
  9. Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members.

II. List of Hospital translator qualifications

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Medical Interpretation experience in hospital, physicians office, or other health care setting, preferred. 
  3. Successful completion of conversational/ translation competency test, administered by CCH translator .  
  4. Completion of AHEC Interpreter Training, preferred.   
  5. Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
  6. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy. 
  7. Prefer Nursing Assistant certification.
  8. Experience in a healthcare setting
  9. Experience with geriatric and their caregivers .
  10. Basic experience with electronic patient health information (PHI).
